Embrace Change

There are positive actions on the horizon for Norfolk. As this city continues to grow, looking for ways to facilitate unity in the community while maintaining an infrastructure that facilitates physical growth is imperative.

One of the tools that will help facilitate physical growth are the roundabouts. When the first was introduced at 7th and Pasewalk here in Norfolk there were skeptics (including myself), that warned roundabouts would never work; but time has proven they are not only simple, but incredibly efficient for traffic flow.

Recent city plans call for roundabouts at 25th and Norfolk Avenue and at 25th and Prospect. They will complement the roundabout already at 25th and Benjamin Avenue.

As citizens of Norfolk we need to embrace change that facilitates efficiency. True progress is breaking the old protocol which created “bottle necks” and fragmentation.

Vision and Responsibility of Decision Makers

Important to Remember This
Our present City Offices as well as the State Capitol were built during the Great Depression. During a time when economic prospects were dismal and the future was tentative. Fortunately for us, the decision makers in those days drew from the deeper wells of hope and constructed facilities, which were the embodiment of that hope. It is now our turn to do the same for future generations.

City Council Meeting on Monday February 4, 2008

I encourage citizens of Norfolk to attend the City Council Meeting at 7:30pm on February 4th. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers on Madison Avenue.

The City Council will be discussing various options that have been presented to them regarding the proposed new City Office and/or Shared Facilities Building.

This is a public hearing and citizen input is desired. Please plan to attend even if you simply want to observe the process.
