NORFOLK — This fall, Norfolk voters will play an important role in deciding our direction and future by electing our next mayor. I’m writing to endorse Tom Schommer for this position.

I’ve known Tom and his family for a number of years. There are many character qualities that stand out to me that make him a qualified, proven leader. Some are that he is a person of convictions, a man of faith and a person of vision. But one quality that many might not easily see is his sincere desire to do the right thing in every circumstance.

This became clear to me as I’ve seen Tom have opportunities to take his campaign in a negative direction on more than one occasion. Some have approached Tom and have encouraged him to do so, yet his conviction is not to head in that direction even if it costs him votes. Tom’s actions have clearly indicated to me that he would rather lose an election and maintain his integrity than win it by unethical means.

It takes character to make that stand. Please join me in voting for Tom Schommer on Nov. 4.
