About the city offices
NORFOLK – I am writing this letter in response to the recent discussion about moving the city offices to the First Christian Church located on north Highway 81.
While I commend the current city staff for striving for improvements to the current conditions, I do wish to express my concern with not having the city offices in the downtown corridor.
I also commend Tom Schommer for his efforts in asking the city to take a closer look at other options before deciding on buying the church. It shows a genuine concern for the future of Norfolk and its citizens.
I feel that downtown Norfolk has made great progress in the last few years and businesses down there should be commended. Having the city offices and combining them with other public entities in a new facility downtown would send a message to citizens and visitors that Norfolk is a progressive community and also that the downtown corridor is and will continue to be the heart of a city that has the best interest of its citizens in mind. I feel that in order for a city to strive toward excellence, its citizens need to be heard by the elected officials so that the officials can make decisions that have the best interest of the community in mind.
