Upset with city
NORFOLK — The powers that are running this city need a lesson in what is done with taxpayer funds. We have a constitution that states the separation of church and state. That means that taxpayer money is not given to churches in any way or form.
A simpler explanation is that all taxpayers contribute funds to one pot. No money in that pot can be used to support any religion because not all the taxpayers will support the religion that is chosen.
The laws of this country also state that illegals are not citizens and should not be receiving any kind of taxpayer support. I do not support any kind of New American Center. If they want to come here legally, then they can survive on their own without the use of any of my property tax money.
Also, Jim Brenneman needs to be reminded that he is representing all the people of the city.
I found his remarks that all people should be in church on Sunday to be personally offensive. Whatever I or other people choose to do on Sunday is clearly none of his business.

Editor’s note: The city’s possible purchase of the former First Christian Church in Norfolk, or the payment for an option on the property, does not violate the separation of church and state.
