No extension
Norfolk Mayor Gordon Adams won’t extend the Tuesday, Jan. 29, deadline for submitting information relating to a possible shared office space.
“The clock is ticking on our option on First Christian Church,” he said Thursday. “We need to move forward.”
Earlier this week, the mayor had been asked to give other governmental entities and agencies more time to submit information about what space they would require and what financial resources they could provide as part of a multi-agency office building or campus. That’s been one of the related topics of discussion as the City of Norfolk looks for new office space.
“The concept of a shared facility isn’t bad. The implementation is the tough part,” Adams said.
The mayor pointed out that one of the agencies interested in being part of a shared facility already receives free rent from the city. Another already is heavily supported financially by the city.
“We need to watch out for the taxpayer here,” he said.
